The Business

Prairiesignmakers is a new and dymamic business formed through an amalgamation between “Prairie Graphics” and “The Sign Makers”, both leading local graphics and signage businesses in Tasmania. We specialise in all types of custom signage, and instalation. We custom-design and manufacture almost any signage product in our extensive and state of the art facilitys statewide. We also stock a huge range of Off The Shelf Signage and Signage Supplies which we distribute Australia-wide including A-Frames, safety signs, pull up banners, snap frames, exhibition signage and sheet materails. The Prairiesignmakers statewide team have over 40 years of combined industry experience, no signage job is too big for us to complete.

The History

Prairie Graphics was founded in 1974 by Don Prairie. Working from a small workshop in Molle Street, Hobart, Don specialised in traditional hand-sign-writing techniques and developed a good reputation in the sign-writing industry. Don sold his  business to Plastic Fabrications Pty Ltd which had a subsidiary company; Island Signs. Plastic Fabrications/Island Signs specialised in basic hand-made signage and rotational moulded products. Island Signs became Prairie Signs in 2002 and was later changed to Prairie Graphics after Don’s retirement 2004.

The Sign Makers was founded in 1996 out of a shop front in Devonport. Initially known as paintNsigns the owner, Greg Wheatley, went onto purchase another local signage business called The Sign Maker. At the same time he moved the business into a bigger factory and became The Sign Makers. The Sign Makers eventually grew so big they moved into a custom built factory in East Devonport and eventually brought Zenith Signs in Hobart to enble the business to become a true state wide operation.

The Company – Plastic Fabrications Pty Ltd

Plastic Fabrications Pty Ltd has been in business for 30 years and supplies boats, sea cages, aquaculture products, custom plastic products, and signage. Working closely with sea farmers, Plastic Fabrications has designed and developed a range of Aquaculture products, supplying in excess of 1,500 AquaSURE seacages to the Australian and international markets over the past 10 years. Plastic Fabrications also supplies mooring equipment including ropes, shackles, thimbles, chain and mooring blocks, as well as providing mooring installation services and technical support. Plastic fabrications also supplies equipment to Australia’s shellfish farms, including Oyster, Mussel, Pearl, Abalone and Scallop farms. Plastic Fabrications has the experience, expertise and contacts to provide a turn key option for Marine farmers. As well as working with the Aquaculture industry, Plastic Fabrications also carries out innovative work in plastics – Commercial – Industrial – Marine – Marineculture and Agriculture and innovative signage products and services.
